In the tradition of The Kite Runner and Breath, Eyes, Memory - My Name Is Butterfly, is a contemporary story that offers an educational, eye opening account about the practice of ritual servitude in West Africa – in this case, Ghana.
The Wikipedia entry describes Ritual Servitude as: “A practice inGhana, Togo, and Benin where traditional religious shrines take human beings, usually young virgin girls in payment for services, or in religious atonement for alleged misdeeds of a family member –almost always a female. These enslaved children are known as “Trokosi” which translates to Wife of the Gods.
My Name is Butterfly, follows the story of Abebe (Butterfly) Tsikata, the privileged daughter of a government employee and stay at home mother. When the Tsikata’s idyllic life style begins to take a turn for the worse, Abebe's father places her in a shrine, hoping that the sacrifice of his daughter will serve as religious atonement for the crimes of his ancestors. Unspeakable acts befall Abebe during the fifteen years she is enslaved.
My Name is Butterfly offers an honest, heartfelt view into a fascinating culture.

My Name is Butterfly by B. Mcfadden is powerful. I don't have a Kindle. I would read this book in a New York minute. It's got my heart moving and pumping and moving......Love it.
This sounds fascinating. I can't wait to read it, but I don't have a Kindle. I'll have to find one to borrow. :)
I'm going to put it on my blog as a clickable.
