Tree Removal Links..

By now you all know that on Thursday, the  New York metro area was hit by a small twister. One woman died and hundreds of trees where destroyed. I was headed out to attend Lori Tharp's soiree, celebrating her latest release: Substitute Me - when the twister hit. I ran around the house like a lunatic, closing windows and re-checking locked doors and then I heard it - the unmistakable sound of a tree falling. I knew it was my tree - it's been threatening to fall for years....!

When it was all over, I looked out into my backyard to find that the tree was still there - well most of it -   a large portion of it had been ripped off and deposited into my neighbors yard. Well, that was it for me. I wasn't going anywhere.

In any case, today is the day that we neighbors get together to dismember, bag and trash the enormous limb.

While I take on the role of "Mrs. Paul Bunyon," I hope you enjoy these very interesting links which I found on the blogger pages of my fellow scribes:

I discovered this on Tayari Jones' site: The Hairdresser of Harare, is a popular novel about homosexuality in Zimbabwe. The book is not available in the USA - but maybe if we all create a demand for it - it will be.

Angelina Jolie as Cleopatra?  - Christopher Chambers has plenty say about that!

My friend Eric is trying to get a book deal that does not place him in the Black Book Section of the Bookstore. Can you help?

    Glorious September Links

    Hey Ya'll!

I can't believe how quickly the summer is slipping away! Although with global warming I suspect the warm weather will follow us well into October or even November..

I want to send a BIG HUGS out to all of you who purchased a copy of Glorious and/or talked it up to friends and family. The book is doing quite well and I appreciate all of your help, kind words and generosity.

I told a friend the other day that there is a particular type of "magic" swirling around Glorious - an ancestral magic...

    I am tearfully humbled....

Nothing but good things have been happening to GLORIOUS, the latest of which was the announcement that Oscar nominated, Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actress Alfre Woodard will be narrating the audio version of GLORIOUS!!

It's going to be a joy to hear MY WORDS spilling from the mouth of this phenomenal woman!

    Now onto the links:

Today is the last day to vote for your favorite author at the African American Literary Awards Website.

Terry McMillan will be touring the country with her new book Getting to Happy. Make sure you get out to see her!

Donna Hill is keeping the summer heat going with her new release: Private Lessons.

Like many lists that have to do with Authors this one is lacking in "Color"

Crystal Wilkinson recommends eleven books that you need to place on your TBR list.

August 29th marked the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Carleen Brice has listed quite a few books which coincides with this anniversary.

Tayari Jones said the line-up for The Brooklyn Book Festival looks pretty HOT... -- and I agree.

My new favorite song is: Airplanes by Eminem and Hayley Williams.

Have a safe and beautiful Labor Day Weekend.....
